Q:

Dear Pastor,

Some people say the world operates on two calendars: God’s and Mankind’s. Is this true?

A:

Yes. God gave His calendar to Moses, the Jewish patriarch, right after he led the people out of Egypt.

God’s calendar is based on the moon and its cycles. Feasting times were also attached to this calendar, with the Lord instituting celebrations of seasons and memorable occasions (like Passover, when the Jews were released from slavery in Egypt.) God’s lunar calendar, called the “Hebrew calendar,” is found the Bible’s books of Leviticus and Numbers. Our Jewish brothers and sisters continue to follow their ancient, God-given calendar through their religious worship even today. It has been utilized by people (and the Lord) for over six thousand years.

While Abraham is considered the father of all nations, as well as the founding member of the Jewish and Christian religions, it was Moses who experienced God face to face and who wrote down the Books of the Law (and the Hebrew calendar) as they were dictated directly to him. These books became the Hebrew religion, which then became the foundation of Christianity through Jesus Christ.

The world functioned on this ancient, Hebrew calendar until the Romans, namely Julius Caesar, came along and re-configured it for Gentile use in 708 A.D., using the sun instead of the moon as its compass. Christianity, quickly becoming the world’s most-practiced religion, made alterations to the Julian calendar under Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. (Hilariously, it is believed this was done to make the Julian calendar more accurate! More accurate than God?) This Pope-authored, solar, calendar is the one utilized today and is called “The Gregorian Calendar.”

While both calendars are current and important, as a believer in Christ, we must keep our eyes on God’s calendar first. He crafted it and He honors it above all. I acknowledged the importance of God’s calendar, for example, not many days ago during the Iran/Israel conflict:

The world now knows the escalation of nuclear threat provoked Israel to eliminate Iran’s nuke-bomb capabilities on June 13, 2025 and days following. An ultimate response to the actions of various Iran-backed terrorist groups, many believe Israel was justified in their military move, which to some, “saved the world” from irresponsible, terrorist governments who were crafting catastrophic weapons of war.

Isn’t it interesting that on God’s calendar, the date of the incident of Israeli self-defense occurred near the hallowed date of Sivan 23, as celebrated on June 19th? Sivan 23 marks the historic moment when the Jews faced annihilation around 470 B.C. as documented in the Bible’s Book of Esther. God’s calendar swiftly quelled any doubt for the Christian or Jew that Israel’s decision to strike out was the right call. Israel even had permission from God to do so. Below is the biblical proof:

Esther 8:9-12, NKJV

So the king’s scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and it was written, according to all that Mordecai commanded, to the Jews, the satraps, the governors, and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces in all, to every province in its own script, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own script and language. And he wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, sealed it with the king’s signet ring, and sent letters by couriers on horseback, riding on royal horses bred from swift steeds. By these letters the king permitted the Jews who were in every city to gather together and protect their lives—to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the forces of any people or province that would assault them, both little children and women, and to plunder their possessions, on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.

These are fascinating times indeed. God is speaking and moving upon the earth. During this opportune time of prayer, let us call His attention to our nation of the United States. We need God’s help right now, too.
